project life 2013 | weeks 5 + 6

some days – and weeks – just feel a bit uninspired. a bit plain jane. kind of quiet and uneventful. and that is how i have been feeling lately. i have not really picked up my big camera very often. lots of my photos for these weeks are from my iphone. i didn’t write down very many details about our days and weeks. just a few quick notes here and there. just plain old regular days around here.

but these days are still part of our story. and they are recorded like all of the other things in our lives. and having some plain old regular weeks is just fine. not having any super special layouts for our project life pages is okay. it really is.

at first i had some anxiety about not putting lots of thought into my page layouts for these weeks. i was critical of myself because there was nothing spectacular to include. i had to stop myself and remember that project life and my desire to document is not about putting out pages that will impress anyone else. it is about recording all the moments – big and small – that tell our story for our family.

sometimes it is just about getting it done. inspired or not. recording and documenting. and it is all still good.

so these are some regular days in our life documented in photos + little stories…

week 5:  a mix of big camera photos and iphone photos. on the last day of january, i joined ali edwards in documenting a day in the life. i am working on an insert with my photos from this day. (the insert is 6 x 12 and i will be ordering it from persnickety prints since my local costco doesn’t offer that size.)

left page:  some black + white photos. a calendar for the new month of february. an iphone photo of my dad, mark and quinn watching the superbowl. quinn showing me how he really feels about his preschool homework, a few photos from my friend’s visit and our week in review card.
an iphone photo converted to black + white and a journaling card with something we hear tate say all the time these days. and yes, he does say stam instead of stand. so sad because he gets so frustrated, but so cute at the same time.
right side:  all iphone photos except for the two big photos of quinn and tate. a screen shot of mark’s first real estate listing and my weekly instagram collage.
sometimes i will go back to my instagram feed and copy whatever i wrote about the photo. (i wish there was a way to make an instagram book that included my original comments that i post with the photo!)
i am incorporating my one little word into my project life pages this year. this month’s assignment from ali edwards was to create a vision board. i spent some time flipping through magazines to find photos +  words that inspired me. i ended up putting together a 20 x 30 white board filled with things that caught my eye. i took a photo for my one little word album and re-sized the photo to fit in a little 3×4 pocket. i also love this iphone photo of quinn getting in the car after school. it shows one of the things i do five days a week. it is so much a part of my everyday routine, but someday we will be past preschool days and i will be so happy to see this photo and all the memories i’m sure it will bring back.
week 6:  another mix of big camera photos (mostly the full 4×6 photos) and iphone photos.
left side:  i had my big camera with me in the grocery store so i took this photo of tate helping me shop with our little melissa + doug shopping cart. we bring it to the store and the boys love to help me do the shopping. i must admit that i used to be self conscious about taking photos with my big camera in stores, but i have gotten over that. i have lots of really fun photos of the boys shopping with me. and i love them all. especially since i noticed today that quinn is almost too tall to use this shopping cart now. i also included an iphone photo of some me time and one of tate in some yummy light on our bed.

i love this iphone photo of all four of us at the park. and another iphone photo of our family movie night.
and yet another iphone photo i printed with my words from instagram.
a little collage of the boys (using these photo templates from paislee press) working on a little valentine’s day craft (inspired by my lovely friend angie warren).
right side:  i took some photos at preschool of all of quinn’s classmates and their dads for a special day called “doughnuts for dads”. since i’m the unofficial class photographer because i’m working on a year long project (inspired by the uber creative becky higgins), i’m lucky enough to get some random photos of quinn at school to include in our project life. like the shot of mark and both boys that morning because tate came too and played while i took photos.
a photo of quinn’s slightly injured nose but even more sad face due to a wooden truck being thrown at him by tate. and a little journaling about it all.

ee k. - Your “uninspired” weeks are still so inspiring to me! I have been really lax on my photo taking these past few weeks. I think it’s all a part of the creative cycle.

I really love how you journaled on the white space of a 4×6 card and used a small photo/instagram. Stealing this idea now!

Jocelyn THompson - ahhh, I love the simplicity of your layouts!
I know it may not seem like it to you some days but it just seems refreshing to me. As a mom of two boys (who are now 25 and 22) I miss those days when they were little and I sure wish I had a PL album to look back on the every day mundane things of life. It goes by way too quickly! You are so very right. This is now and this is your family’s story! Cherish every minute of it! Thank you for sharing your story with us!

Rhonda - Lovely lovely pages!!!

Donna M - I totally understand the ‘flat’ weeks… had a couple of those here too. Your pages still look awesome though.

Kerrie - Thankyou so much for this post! I’ve had a couple of weeks like this as well, with very few photos (VERY unusual for me)and have been wondering if it’s even worth PLing them, but you have me all inspired now… it’s the everyday stuff like this that makes PL so wonderful, I just forget that a lot!
Oh, and I totally LOVE your style of PL!

Pedroza - I love your layouts and always look forward to reading your stories. I also wanted to mention that you can print your 6x 12 layouts by creating a new canvas in photoshop the size of 12×12, then placing 2 ( 6 x12 )template on it. Then you can print your layout in Costaco. Hope I am making sense here. Hope this helps.

dawn - i bought all these fancy products to do project life and yet I love the simplicity of how you are approaching this. makes me want to start over. your pages are beautiful

linked 2013 | comfort

sometimes comfort is just a small thing. like a cup of hot tea in my new favorite mug. (thank you target!)

poor quinn was very upset to see a letter “t” on my mug. he thought it was a “t” for tate. because according to him, my name starts with the letter “m”…

linked 2013 is a monthly blog project. check out what comfort looks like to these ladies linking up with me this month: Amanda, Carla, Hanne, Heather, Heidi, Janet, Jean, Jenn, Rhonda and Tracey.

Jenn - Silly mama, how could your name begin with a T? :) Angelo and Grace were fighting over what my name was last week.

Tea is a neccessity around here to make it through a cold and rainy day. Love that it’s a comfort for you too.

Jean - Oh how cute of him.

Janet - Priceless, your name starts with M.
Sometimes I think a new mug should be such an easy thing to find, but it isn’t. I have seen one I love at HomeGoods, but I haven’t bought it because it doesn’t match anything I have…how stupid is that? The one I bought a few months back doesn’t match anything either.
That top pic is sooo soothing.

young c - lol, funny. Sounds like something my toddler would do. :)

Carla - Love the mug. My kids have said the whole thing about my name starting with “m” too. Cute. Sometimes it’s the little things that are the greatest comfort.

tracey - Well of course I love your new tea mug! :) I’d eat a cup of cereal in it! My comfort snack.

rhonda - Eli (4) loves to call us by our first names lately (and grandparents too – since he just learned those :) HA! Cute mug!

Amanda - Loving this!!! Especially on cold Mn here! I’m ready for spring!

15 on the 15th | february 2013

i’ve joined my friend rhonda in capturing 15 photos of my day on the 15th of each month. this month, i used my iphone. sometimes it just makes life a little easier. i did manage to sneak in one photo with my big camera and that is the three little blue ducks…

Rhonda - Loooove them. And so glad you are joining me :)

Jenn - I love the photo wall over your computer!

I’m 3 weeks behind in figuring out/editing/ordering pics for project life. And was just procrastinating by checking out my blog reader. :) Blech, hate being behind. Oh well, pics are figure out and I’ll save editing them for another night.

Love seeing your day, friend!

ee k. - Your iPhone photos are amazing, proving once again that it’s not the camera that takes great photos :)

15 on the 15th | RhondaSteed.com - [...] My friend Tracy is going to start joining me on this project now.Go check out her day here. [...]

Trina - These photos are all just awesome!! Great details, angles, perspectives. Just love them! You have such a good eye!!! :-)

tracey - I do love all of your photos over your computer…and of course the chipotle bag. Yummo!!!

brooke’s baby book

i did it. i dove into the wonderful world of digital project life! and i started with a very special book that i made for a very special little girl’s 2nd birthday – which just happens to be today!

my niece, brooke, was born 11 week early. and my sister allowed me to use my camera to document her stay in the hospital for the week before her daughter was born. she also allowed me to slip into the nicu and photograph baby brooke for the two months that she was there growing and getting stronger. (you can read more about brooke’s birth here and here.)

so brooke’s 2nd birthday was the perfect time to put all of these photos together into a book for her to keep for always. it is so amazing to see her journey in photos over those two months. to see how she had lots of tubes + wire to breathing and eating on her own.

i used the digital project life templates and the baby edition for her kit to make a photo book in photoshop. (i did mix in a few cards from the baby edition too. i just love the yellow + grey colors in this kit!) i had the photo book printed as a 12×12 book from shutterfly. the process was simple. the only extra little thing that i did was to personalize a few of the cards with brooke’s age + the date.

here are some photos of the printed book from shutterfly:

my sister in the hospital…

just an hour after brooke was born…
the first days…
getting stronger…
going home! i love these photos of my sister through the nicu door washing her hands for the last time. i scrubbed in with her every time we went to take photos of brooke.
a healthy little baby girl…
i included the two blog posts i wrote about brooke so she can read them someday…
i made two pages of the baby edition for her prompt cards and left them blank so my sister can write in the book and fill them out. who says you can’t write on the pages of a photo book?

here are all of the digital pages:

Carla - This is amazing! What a great gift. She will love looking at this when she gets older.

Rhonda - What an amazing gift!!!?

MaryRuth - so beautiful!!

Brooke - Tracy this is just beautiful. Awesome gift, awesome story and awesome name *wink*. Happy Birthday to your niece.

Katy - Just love this book. And it inspires me to kind of redo my first son’s book, which I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. He also had a long NICU stay – his first two months (he has Down syndrome and required a few surgeries right after birth). I sure remember that scrubbing in everyday! It’s a lovely book that I’m sure mom and niece forever cherish!

Se'ana - I love the idea of including handwriting in a photo book! Such great inspiration! Thanks for thinking outside the box. Beautiful book!

EmmaJohns - Beautiful! I love the pages of blank prompt cards. Such a thoughtful gift.

Dani - Beautiful Tracy! Everything from the photography to the layouts and use of PL supplies! I’ve also thought of handwriting directly on the photobook pages! You’ve done it brilliantly! I love how the colors of the images work so nicely with the journaling cards! Thanks for continuing to inspire us through your work!

donya - This is so awesome, Tracy! I need to do this with my older son whose first 1.75 years were not captured in my Project Life albums.

Linda - This is gorgeous! I haven’t tried the digital project life (I do the paper version), but your book is inspiring me to try it for a gift!!

Nisa - this is AMAZING! Love the idea of including the blank cards for your sister to fill in later… genius. and totally gorgeous.

Holly - This is pure gorgeousness. I love that you focused on the photos and still gave her the space to write personally. What a treasure!

Sarah - Beautiful keepsake, she will love this so much when she is older. Such a treasure x x x x

Donna M - Absolutely beautiful! What a treasured gift this will be. I have 2 nieces who were born at around the same term – one made it and one sadly not, so I know your sister and niece will really appreciate this.

Lisa McLean - This is beautiful! I am so tempted by the digital baby book – I bought the actual kit to make my son’s actual album, but I secretly want to not use it and just do it digitally…hahaha

Lori - This is just SO beautiful. It took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. What an amazing gift you’ve given your sister and niece, and what a beautiful little miracle she is!

Donna G. - Tracy, you did a beautiful job on this book! What a treasure for your sister and niece!! PS. Isn’t digital wonderful? =)

tiffany h - Gorgeous album! What a treasure for your niece!

Margie - This made me cry! What a wonderful aunt and sister you are!
I used to follow Becky Higgins in the early 2000s but I quit scrapbooking when my 7th and 8th boys were born. I was too busy and too sick. I better go check out Project Life!

Fiona - What a gorgeous album! I’ve been meaning to do a similar album for each of my three kids, but I love your take on it. So inspiring. I especially love how you left the journal cards blank. A great way to get handwriting in the project! What a beautiful and thoughtful gift!

Lynn L. - What a beautiful gift…definitely a treasure! Love it!!

Mary - Simply amazing and so inspiring in it’s simplicity! Thank you for sharing such a personal journey for your family.

Karina K - Such a beautiful album! Your sister and your niece when she gets older will treasure it!

dana - so beautiful!!! my daughter was a 28 weeker so i know your sister’s journey. i only wish i had such beautiful documentation of our days in the nicu. they may have been hard but it was the start to her life and i never want to forget them.
your sister and her baby girl will treasure this book forever. what a gift!

project life 2013 | weeks 3 + 4

i’m changing things up a little bit with my project life pages. i am trying something a little new + different for me. i’m going square. yep, square photos + square journaling cards.

i’ve always loved the look of square project life pages and i’ve been wanting to try them. but since i’m such a creature of habit, i just stuck with the rounded corners because it is what i’ve always done. but after looking at all of the project life 2013 creative team inspiration on becky’s blog, i decided to just do it the way that i want to.

you see, i love clean lines and straight edges. and i love white space even more. so i not only went with square photos but i took it one step further and added a white border to all of my photos. i feel like this gives my pages a more cohesive look. and i think that i might even make my white photo borders a little thicker next time.

week 3:  these days, i’m capturing everyday life with both my iphone and my big camera.

left page: my week in review card is in the top left pocket, as always. i put some text on some photos and highlighted some iphone photos in the 3×4 pockets with little stories underneath.

right page: lots of photos and one journaling card.

a journaling card with a little something quinn said to me – it is kind of gross, but i want to remember all the little boy things he says. and an iphone photo of quinn sleeping on my lap at dinner.

i used ali edward’s hello life stamps for the everyday life journaling card. i also found a little drawing that quinn made for tate and taped it onto a journaling card and had quinn write his name on it.

this is an iphone photo of tate having a slow start to his morning. i love the angle and added a little text in avenir font.

week 4: keeping it simple with mostly photos again. some more text on a few photos to tell more of the story.

left side: little bits + pieces of real life this week.

right side: some field day photos, a quote that made a difference to me this week, a funny thing quinn said about his brother and my weekly instagram collage template.

moving the bike seats was a little thing this week, but those little things are what keeps our lives moving forward.

i split this photo and put it in the middle of design a pocket pages.

Donna M - Love the white borders. I’ve gone all square edges this year too. Last year I mixed them as I hated rounding everything but it annoyed me having square backing rounded, so pleased I’m not the only rebel :)

ee k. - I absolutely love the look of your pages. Clean lines, fabulous photos, great journaling. What more do you need?

Kim Howard - Love your pages, I started with the white borders this year too and no corner rounding. Love how it looks in the album!

Julie - Hi Tracy,

I love peeking in on your blog- you’re doing an amazing job so far this year with PL! One question for you regarding square: how do you decide whether to use the regular camera app or Instagram? I’m thinking of just using Instagram from now on…maybe it’ll be easier to organize, print photos and do layouts. I keep all my iphone pics in my iPhoto catalogue and leave the others in Instagram, but I hate going back and forth to decide which photos to use. I use LR4 for all my “big camera” pics, so it just makes it even more cumbersome to narrow down pics to print for PL. Do you have a method you use? I know you mentioned that you keep folders by week on your had drive, so I assume you just gather them directly from iPhoto, Instagram and Photoshop? I’m thinking of just using tags to identify which pics I used for my PL layouts. Any thoughts? Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us…it really is inspiring!

Julie

Fiona - I love the new look! White borders are awesome. I love the focus on the photos. Those quotes are just gorgeous! It will be so fun to look back and remember them. You are so inspirational!

Shirsha - Love the fact that you are using the square corners for photos as well as the journaling cards. I am using rounded corners this year to tie in better with the rounded journaling cards…but will totally keep this in mind for any other PL album. I love your refreshing your pages look. :)

Alison - Beautiful pages! love the cohesiveness and clean look of your style. Thanks for sharing.

Janet - Love the square photos and the white. Definitely a clean look where you actually see the pictures where as some PL pages are so cluttered. Thanks for the inspiration.

amy t schubert - I love your clean style :)
Mine always ends up looking messy!

Liza - So cute!!!!

Vicki - Love your layout–love it! The white borders around your photos look fabulous!

Donna G. - Oh my goodness! I love the square corners. I love the white borders. So creative!! Who knew we didn’t have to use rounded corners?? :)

Laurel - I really liked your white borders and square shapes, so I tried it for my Week Six. I really really liked what that simple change did to my pages. I agree with you that it lends a more unified look. Thanks for the great idea! Your pages and photography are beautiful.

Julia - I do like the squared ones a lot!! How did you do the layouts? Is there a template or a “how to do it in photoshop” somewhere? Thanks a lot for the inspiration!

these days | january 2013

getting more organized for a fresh start to my year. it is a slow + steady process. drawer by drawer. room by room. clearing out the unnecessary. feels so good.

slowing down and enjoying life a bit more.

thinking about my one little word.

taking my vitamins everyday – thanks to the new gummy vitamins for adults. (i’m just not big on swallowing pills.)

sleeping 7 – 8 hours a night. this is an effort for me since i am a night owl. hoot hoot.

watching tate play every single kind of bowling game he can – with big pins, little tiny pins, the bowling app on the iphone, watching bowling videos on the ipad, making wooden blocks into bowling pins and getting creative with setting up crayons and knocking them over with his little cars.

reading a good book all over again. this time with a highlighter. women, food and god.

trying to get my boys to eat more healthy food. this is such a hard process. hello picky eaters!

playing referee between quinn + tate. they just love to bug each other all the time which leads to lots of screaming.

figuring out how not to be late to preschool. this was not a problem until quinn started taking forever to eat his breakfast.

catching up on this season of ncis.

going back and making a digital project life album for 2011. i have two months completed so far and i am so thrilled!

making an effort to pick up my big camera a little more this month. need to get out of my photo funk.

danielle - Hi there, your PL is amazing! I am loving all the details and the journaling! I didn’t finish mine from last year, I think it was Cinco de Mayo week, so lame…( It was pictures from a restaurant there in FL called Frida) ( I live in Weston), your photography is beautiful, too!!!

Emma R - I am with you on playing referee, my two keep winding each other up, but as soon as one of them is in time out, the other sits down next to them to try and cheer them up!!

Tate is so cute with his bowling obsession :)

Jen - I love your site and all your posts… I’m just dipping into the world of “scrap booking” and I’m still trying to figure out if the traditional or digital method is better (I’m leaning towards digital) since I’m a photographer and work on the computer all the time, it just seems right to also scrapbook on the computer! Anyways, I see you have just started to do PL digitally…… so I’m hoping you can answer a few questions for me?

Do you design 12×12 pages and then print the whole page and stick it in a sleeve for the album binder?

I do love the ability to write on some PL cards (if I was doing the traditional method) but since I will mostly be doing digital, how can I write or have my kids write on the photo pages? Is there a special pen or something?

Thank you for your time, I know you are a busy lady! Again, I love your blog!! Very inspirational :)

linked 2013 | fresh

i am starting my new year with a commitment to healthy habits. some of these things are new to me. and some are things i should have been doing all along. but they are mostly just simple things that are so good for the body + soul. like more sleep. more whole foods. bringing back yoga for inner and outer well being. and juicing.

green drink fresh =>> www.tracy-larsen.com/blog

so about this juicing thing… my husband and i wanted to get more nutrients and fresh fruits and veggies into our daily eating. and i saw dr. oz recently on tv talking about this green drink he makes for his family every day. and then i started seeing photos of friends making green drinks on instagram. so i decided to give it a try.

and i loved it. and so did my husband!

now one thing you must understand is that my husband is not the healthiest of eaters. (and yes, he did marry me when i was working as a registered dietitian.) he eats very few fruits and even less veggies. so the fact that he not only tried this green drink, but actually liked it was nothing short of a miracle. a big win in my book. i did try to get my kids to dink it too, but they are not fans yet. i understand since neither of them drink anything other than water and milk. they are still young, so we will work on this by example.

here is how i made my green drink… i followed the basic ingredient list from dr. oz’s green drink – minus the parsley which gave it a horribly bitter taste.

2 cups spinach
mint
1/2 cucumber
3 medium carrots
1/2 orange
1/4 lemon
1/4 lime
2 apples
pineapple

fresh green drink =>> www.tracy-larsen.com/blog

a few random things…
- canned pineapple is just as good as fresh and it’s much easier to open a can than core and peel a fresh pineapple. (i did get my master’s degree in food and nutrition, so i can say for certain that the nutrients in canned food are just as good as fresh.)
- peel the citrus fruit before putting it in the juicer.
- i love that our lemons come fresh from my aunt + uncle’s lemon tree. thank you sunshine state for the fresh fruit.
- i wish i had my very own lemon, lime and orange trees in my yard. perhaps one day we will get some…
- i’m going to play with this recipe a bit and add some more veggies here and there. i even started a juicing pinboard on pinterest.

fresh green drink =>> www.tracy-larsen.com/blog
you can use a juicer or a blender to make this drink. i tried both. and for me, the juicer wins. i like that it is a thinner consistency – more like, well, juice. the blender did include more of the fibrous parts of the fruits and vegetables, but it also made the drink a lot thicker and more like a smoothie. it is your choice.

so far, i have really loved this daily glass of fresh juice. it has easily become something i look forward to every night after dinner. a healthy habit for sure.

go ahead and try it. i dare you.

linked 2013 is a monthly blog project. check out what fresh looks like to these ladies linking up with me this month: Amanda, Carla, Hanne, Heather, Heidi, Janet, Jean, Jenn, Kristin, Rhonda and Tracey.

Jocelyn Thompson - Ah I think that drink does look very fresh indeed. It is nearing my lunch time so it also makes me a little hungry. I am on Whole30 right now so not too many fruits in my diet but lots of veggies! Yum! Thanks for sharing!

Oh by the way, I could only get three of the links to work. Not sure if it is me or the link.

Heather M. - Yum! That looks and sounds delicious! Good for you (and especially your hubby)! I need to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Jenn - It looks so good! We drink green smoothies here but I’ve made it the same old way for a while. I’m going to try your recipe for the next one, thanks!

rhonda - Yum. I’ll have to try these! My kids will drink smoothies so maybe they’ll try a green one.

Melinda T - Mmm, it looks good! I’m not much of a fruit or veggie person either, but I do want to live a healthier lifestyle and set an example for my girls! We have a blender, will have to use it til we get a juicer! TFS!

Jean - Brady’s dad just bought us a juicer and kindly even bought us some veggies & fruit! Brady made this weird veggie & fruit smoothie/juice and it was delish although I have to admit, it looked scary. May have been from the mixed berries. Anyway, I know, The past month, I have been eating terrible. And sleep, that is very important.

I would so love a fruit tree. My dad would always grow pear trees.

Carla - The fruits and veggies look great. It would be amazing to have a fruit tree in your yard. I would love to try the juice (not a big fan of mint but I’m guessing the flavor doesn’t come through too strong). I don’t currently have a juicer or even a blender. I’ll have to find someone with a juicer to invite me over so we can try together. :)
Totally a great eating habit to get into. I really could use some healthier habits myself.

danielle - I used to juice and also had a wheatgrass press. I need to get a juicer again. Which one do you use?

janet - Everytime I go to Target or WalMart, i walk by the blender isle and stand there a while. I think I would like one that will process food, and blend smoothies and frozen coffees…I can’t decide, too many choices and I don’t want another huge appliance sitting around.
What do you have?
Everything looks good!

tracey - I LOVE making green drinks. Other things I add to mine: aloe vera juice, flax meal, almond milk, or coconut milk.

Amanda - This might be good for me…a girl who doesn’t like her veggies and very little fruit! The bright green scares me a bit I have to admit, but perhaps that’s my anti-green speaking! :)

what matters

my life has evolved. these days i choose to spend my free time working on my family photos + project life. and i couldn’t be happier. but up until now i couldn’t really put it into words.

why exactly is this important to me?
why i choose to spend so much time on these memories?
why exactly is this such a priority for me?

well, i finally found the right words to describe why i spend my time doing what a i do…

and my answer is yes.

it will matter to me. to my family. to my husband. to my kids.

taking photos of the boys all the time is just a part of our daily lives. it is something that show them that i care. their printed photos in a book show them that they matter. the photos i put on the walls show them that they are important. documenting our memories + our story is important.

so how did i get to this place? well, simply put, i let go.

i let go of needing to do everything perfectly for project life.
i let go of needing to edit to perfection every.single.photo.i.shot.
i let go of needing to take every photo with my big camera and embraced my iphone.
i let go of needing the most amazing design layouts for my photo books.
i let go of needing to get it all done in one night.
i let go of caring so much about what everyone else would think. would they  like it? was it pretty enough?

and what i gained since letting go has been so much more than i ever realized. all the time i put in to piecing together our story week by week in project life last year means so much. because my family now has our story recorded forever. and that will matter more than a year from now.

what are you doing today that will matter a year from now?

michelle - Yes, yes and AMEN!! This is what I have embraced myself, being Ok with Ok. Perfection paralyzes and robs me of my joy and satisfaction. Letting go of all the things you mentioned is freedom to me. And your phrase “will this matter a year from now” should be a question we all ask ourselves daily about the things we choose to spend our time on. I know I will be asking myself that question more in the coming year. Excellent post.

Carla - Perfect. Letting go sometimes is the best thing. I’ve been toying with the idea of project life but keep thinking that mine won’t measure up to other people’s books or that I won’t follow through. I’m still thinking.
I have a hard time letting go of the idea that I have to edit photos. I don’t like to post pics SOOC because I feel like I’m being judged on them and because I don’t feel like I have enough time / don’t want to spend an hour / hour and a half editing and posting, I don’t blog near as much as I’d like. Working on letting it go. :)
Love the post.

stacey - Absolutely. Loved this, Tracy.

Jean - privacy. as much as i love to blog, i like to still keep my life private. :) knowing what to and what not to post online (as far as tweeting, facebook, & blog). keeping things private, it matters. :)

i love this post. thank you for sharing. i really do think documenting is very important.

janet - Yes, yes, yes…from one of your “old” blogger friends, I wish there had been digital when my kids were little. I have one scrapbook from birth to highschool grad. for my first two done, my youngest (23) keeps asking when I’m going to finish his. Projectlife is much easier (if you let it). I still find myself wanting to put too much in it though.

Lee - Yes! Sometimes done is enough :)

Lisa Barrie - I used to spend 18 hours on a layout. Yes it was beautiful and yes I loved doing them, but it never told the story of the family we created, how we live, what we do and how we do it. This is my first year doing 100% digital and doing project life. It is so real, I feel like I live in the moment. No fancy photo shoots with my SLR, I too have totally embraced my iPhone too! Felicity - Tracy, you put into words exactly how I have approached project life. I have emulated your approach to Project Life this year and I am feeling freedom. Last year I felt pressure to embellish and use the latest products released. Now I am taking photos and journalling our week, and that is all that matters. Thank you so very much for sharing your journey.

Jocelyn Thompson - Soooo love this! The Why! Sums it up for me as well. Will this matter in a year? Absolutely! Thank you for all your inspiration!

Donna G. - Well put, Tracy! Of course, you didn’t need to let go of your need to have “the most amazing design layouts for your photos books.” Project Life does that for you! :)

Kelly - so well said – love it!

Petra - So beautifully put. Simple, sweet and 100% spot on.
Thank you for sharing your insight. It made me think.

Robin Gibson - Well said & a huge THANK YOU!! I needed this message! I have been scrapbooking & documenting for a long time, and just this year started PL! Very excited, but still those ‘is this good enough’ thoughts creep in. I’m letting that stuff go! It only matters what my family & I think, regarding our memories! So why do I get so hung up on, is it pretty enough? I love playing with product, as much as my pictures, lol. But the important thing is getting it all recorded. And thanks to PL, it is pretty, whether I dress it up anymore than it already is, or not! Love this message! Thanks!

Andrea - Great post! Got me thinking!
Will definitely be keeping this question in the forefront of my thinking now. :-)

rhonda - Totally this is something ALL moms should think about while making choices everyday
