the santa photos

after we took the boys to get their photo with santa last month, i thought it would be fun to show them their photos with santa from the past years. we always take them to the santa at bass pro shops so the santa scene is similar, but the boys have changed. as i sat in front of my computer to find each year’s santa photo, i had to search in many different photo folders. my photos are organized by date (i’m a bit obsessive about keeping my photos in chronological order) so i knew exactly where to find each one, but it still required way too much clicking. so i decided to create a single photo book with only the santa photos of the boys from each year.

to make this album, i purchased this red 6×8 album and these 6×8 page protectors. (becky higgins also has some pretty red 6×8 albums like this one and this one.) i used my new simply white life pages 6×8 templates. to make the pages with the santa photos, i put the 6×8 photos onto an 8×10 grey background so it would be easy to trim to the correct size. i printed the photos at my local sam’s club.

this project was so simple and i just love the finished album! and so do the boys. now all i have to do is add two new pages each year…

we also have a similar book with the boy’s yearly halloween photos (totally inspired by this post from cathy zielske). it is another album that i love. i can see at a glance how much they are growing and how cute they were in their costumes each year.

(i printed every year of santa photos of my boys in our album. i just did not photograph each page for this post.)

Pedroza - Hi Tracy,
Just started creating digital templates using 6×8 size, however can you please tell me which company could print this size?

tracy - You can get 6×8 prints from Persnicketyprints.com – great quality too!

Kathy - Hi Tracy,

I love your Santa Album and photos!! Your boys are adorable and I have enjoyed following them online. I also have been thinking about making a Santa Album for both of my daughters. I was wondering if you could share where you found the holiday title cards in your album? :)

Happy New Year!
Kathy

tracy - Hi Kathy, I just updated the blog post to include the digital card sources at the bottom of the post. Thanks!

Kathy - Thank you!! :)

year five, day one

tate turned five years old and i documented his whole day in photos. his birthday was on a monday. after the previous few days of celebrating at disney and with a big football party, his actual birthday was just regular old five year old fun. we brought doughnuts to preschool, show and tell, football fun (including his new football shoulder pads and dressing like the denver broncos – not the gators – with a helmet he colored with marker to match), birthday presents, tate’s choice of birthday dinner at chick-fil-a and a trip to home depot.

photographing birthday days has become an annual tradition. click here to see quinn’s year seven, quinn’s year six, quinn’s year five, tate’s year four and tate’s year three.

catching up with my 2014 project life pages…

week 51

this was the last week of school before christmas break. tate was a duck in his preschool play, quinn had his class holiday party, there was lots of football and drawing, mark and i went to a few holiday parties while the boys had fun with the babysitter and we took the boys bowling. i also included some things the boys were saying and writing and a small week in review card. (design coming soon in my digital shop.)

Shawn - Thank you so much for sharing your pages!

Wendy - Do you use drop shadow on all your PL pages? I really like the look of your pages, just not sure how to get the same effect?
Thanks for your help!

tracy - Hi Wendy! Yes, in my own Project Life pages I use the drop shadow border effect on all of my photos. It is an option that is built right into my simply white life pages which are my digital page templates. Thanks, Tracy

project life 2015 | title page

project life title page 2015 - digital project life ==> tracy-larsen.com/blog

I am so excited to start off 2015 with this title page for project life. I loved my title page last year (see it here along with some great info on going digital) so much that I used the same basic design, but with a twist… gold foil lettering!

So, am I finished with my 2014 project life pages? Um, no. I fell a bit behind at the end of the year. But I am working on my pages and they are coming together so quickly with my digital simply white life pages templates! I just love doing this project digitally. And I cannot wait to finish 2014 and get my book printed.

And FYI… I found a great tutorial on creating gold foil lettering here.

Giada - Tracy, I am so happy that you’re back sharing your pages. Just looking at your pages has thought me so much about good design, white space and balance. Thank you.

Jovana - I just started with project life and bought all of your simply white collection for the individual cards + pages. Yours definitely add a new elegance that the traditional PL page templates lack :) THANK YOU!

I also copied your title card layout – it is so beautiful and think it’s ideal for a title page!

kelly polizzi - wonderful!

Adam - The Modern Collective - Thanks for sharing a link to our gold foil tutorial, Tracy! We love how you used it here! All the best to you in 2015!

Sindee - Just lovely!

Lida - I really like your title pages for PL. Love your style.

natalie turetsky - We all fall behind! But catching up is easy with iPhoto smart albums and day one app for journaling which I am always up to date on. The best part is using your templates. While I catch up with you I can’t wait to see where you decide to print and what information you have for making sure the book prints correctly!
Thanks Tracy

simplypearl - thanks for directing us to this great tutorial!!! using it on my title page too!!

tracy - Glad this helped! :)

Meagan - Thank you!!! I’ve tried learning this and watching tutorials to do it but I have always found it so confusing. I love how you are straight forward, step by step, simple. Going to go practice this now! One question, are we to “flatten” the image after or is that not necessary for printing?
Thanks again!!! Definitely following your posts now :) (ran across your site through Instagram)
